… this trip exceeded our highest expectations.
Crossing the North Simpson Desert by Madigan’s Line, this trip exceeded our highest expectations. Faced with the challenge of re-scheduling, as the exit from the Desert was impassable owing to the floodwaters from North Queensland, Norm was meticulous in providing updates on the evolving situation and consulting with everyone to agree to final dates – which resulted in perfect conditions and weather. His advice on pre-trip preparations was patient, comprehensive and helpful and in the Desert itself he gave constant leadership, talking us over the more difficult dunes and advising on tyre pressures and driving techniques. Recovery was quick and efficient when anyone got stuck in the soft sand. Norm and Coralie are always keen to pass on their extensive knowledge of the country and its history and flora, adding depth and interest to the matchless scenery. Best of all, the timescale was generous, with ample photo stops at each of Madigan’s campsites and other significant points, and getting us into camp in full daylight each day with time to enjoy and photograph the magnificent desert ambience and the three beautiful waterholes.
We would thoroughly recommend this trip and might even think of doing it again ourselves.
